LMR cable assemblies – assembled in house by McGill Microwave Systems, uses the LMR Cable range combined with Times Microwave X Series Tri Metal/Alballoy plated connectors which provide superior broadband VSWR performance.
The Times Microwave Systems LMR Cable Assemblies range is recognised globally as the Industry Standard Ultra Low Insertion Loss, Flexible, Low Cost, Lightweight DC-6 GHz solution for most applications – backed up by the best warranty and technical support in the business.
LMR Cable Assemblies – In Depth
LMR Coaxial cable is the most popular cable in the industry due to its excellent reliability, surpassed flexibility and ultra low attenuation. The LMR cable has loss figures comparable to the extremely rigid corrugated coaxial cables however manages to achieve similar flexibility to that of high loss RG Cables. LMR is around 40% lower attenuation than RG-8, RG 213, RG 214 and 9913 Air-Dielectric type Cables.
This is achieved due to the cable construction specifications. The centre conductor uses a BCCAI Material which is has a generous amount of copper used. The dielectric is nitrogen injected, foamed, closed cell, Polyethylene which helps towards achieving 84% Velocity of Propagation. The insulators are made of tinned, oxygen free copper that also come with foil conductor tapes.
These are bonded directly onto the insulator thus providing a double-shielded coaxial cable conductor that is effective at all times. Due to its double bonded foil, the attenuation is significantly lower when compared to single shielded coaxial cables: RF shielding of LMR-400 is > 90 db as compared to 40 dB for RG8.
LMR Cable Assemblies – Frequency Operating Band
LMR is designed to operate excellent from DC – 6GHz. For any frequency band at VHF and above LMR is the obvious choice.
Should you find your RF system operates at above 1GHz: LMR is once again your best option, as RG cable typically isn’t compatible with any frequency in excess of 1GHz.
LMR Connectors
The Times Microwave X Series, that are used to turn the coaxial cable into an assembly, have been engineered to offer the additional key advantages and features over our competitors’ products:
- Albaloy/Tri-Plate plating – resulting in superior Corrosion/Salt Fog resistance performance.
- No braid trim feature – saves time during termination
- Excellent broadband VSWR performance
- Centre pins plated with substantial 50 micro inches of gold- enhanced mate/de-mate life.
- IP 67 Waterproof rated when used with the Times WSB strain relief Weather Sealing Boots.
- Rugged Design with hex Coupling nut feature on Male connectors -enabling the use of torque tools to ensure proper mating force
- Compatible with Times assembly aid tooling such as CST and CT strip/crimp tools
- Solderless rapid assembly design
- Indelible Laser marked with the Times part number
- Superior pull strength /connector retention designs.

Weather Sealing, Strain Relief Boots
When any of our LMR Cable assemblies are used with our WSB weather sealing strain relief boots, the assembly becomes IP67 Rated. This gives extra assurance by fully mitigating any risk of dust ingress and is fully Protected from immersion in water between 15 centimetres and 1 meter in depth.
The soft silicone boot weatherproofing kits replace older weatherproofing methods. The WSB™ weather seal strain relief boots are IP67 rated and are both RoHS and REACH Compliant.
The Weather sealing boots has ribs built in and snap on to our Times Microwave connectors, which also have ribs. This created an excellent, water tight, labyrinth seal effect, which gives excellent sealing abilities.
The WSB boots are compatible with common connectors for:
