LMR-500-FR

LMR-500-FR coaxial cable, Manufactured by Times Microwave Systems, is recognised globally as the industry standard ultra low loss, flexible, low cost, lightweight, DC – 6GHz coaxial cable solution for many RF applications. 

LMR-500-FR is the fire retardant version of the LMR-500 coaxial cable. It is a non-halogen (non-toxic), low smoke, fire retardant cable designed for in-building runs that can be routed anywhere except air handling plenums. LMR-500-FR is UL/NEC & CSA rated ‘CMR’ and ‘FT4’ respectively, meets FAA FAR25 requirements and is MSHA-P for mining applications.

Why choose LMR-500-FR?

LMR-500-FR has excellent reliability, unsurpassed flexibility and ultra low attenuation. The LMR-500-FR cable has loss figures comparable to the extremely rigid corrugated coaxial cables however manages to achieve similar flexibility to that of high loss RG Cables. LMR-500-FR is around 40% lower attenuation than RG Air-Dielectric type Cables.

How is the LMR-500-FR low loss figures achieved?

This is achieved due to the cable construction specifications. The centre conductor uses a high conductivity, Bare copper clad covered aluminium centre conductor material. The dielectric is nitrogen injected, foamed, closed cell, Polyethylene which helps achieve 82% Velocity of Propagation. The Dielectric has a Aluminium foil outer conductor, which is chemically bonded on to it. Due to the cable construction, The attenuation is significantly lower as compared to single shielded coaxial cables: RF shielding of LMR-500 is > 90 db as compared to 40 dB for RG8.

Outer Jacket

LMR-500-FR has a UV Resistant FRPE Jacket. This helps to ensure the cable jacket can withstand harsh outside environments and UV rays from sunlight. The cable is also designed for indoor use. The cable is designed to last for up to 20 years of outdoor service.

Frequency Operating Band

LMR-500-FR is designed to operate excellent from DC – 6GHz. For any frequency band at VHF and above LMR is the obvious choice.

Installing the LMR EZ connector range is the easiest in the business. Detailed instructions come with the connector, however, to ensure you achieve the correct strip length every time, with minimum effort, we have you covered. You can use our TK-500-EZ Cable assembly tool kit. The tool kit consists of a CST-500 strip tool, CT-500 crimp tool and a CCT-03 Cutting tool.

This cutting tool has been specially designed with a perfect spring force already built in to the tool to cut the cable. All the user needs to do is simply spin the tool, and it cuts the cable perfectly itself, every time.     The CST-500 manufactured by Times Microwave Systems and is designed to Strip all variations of LMR-500 cable. This tool has 3 features: Cable cut (To centre conductor), Jacket stripper and centre conductor deburring tool. There is also an adjustment setting on the stripping tool to allow to cut for Times Microwave LMR Crimp connectors or Clamp connectors. Simply set it to the correct connector type and start stripping. The Cable Prep Tool has replaceable blades however this should not need to be done regularly as the blades have been proven to have a very long lasting life.

    TK-500EZ Cable Assembly Tool kit

    The TK-500EZ Cable Assembly Tool Kit has been designed for LMR-500 crimp and clamp connectors. The tooling in the kit can be used with all LMR-500 cables and all LMR-500 X series connectors. The TK-500EZ tool kit consists of the following items:
    • CCT-03 Cable Cutting Tool
    • CST-500 Cable Stripping Tool
    • CT-500 Crimping Tool
    • Black Tool Bag
    CCT-03 Cutting tool
    The CCT-03 cutting tool, included in the TK-500EZ Tool Kit, is the first tool used to cut the LMR coaxial cable. This has been specially designed with a perfect spring force already built in to the tool to cut the cable. All the user needs to do is simply spin the tool, and it cuts the cable perfectly itself, every time. The CCT-03 cutting tool has a hardened blade, that allows 1000’s of cable cuts, with no degradation to the blade. The CCT-03 cutting tool is designed to cut from LMR-100 – LMR-600.
    CST-500 Cable Stripping Tool
    The CST-500 Cable Stripping Tool, included in the TK-500EZ Tool Kit, is the second tool used to strip the LMR coaxial cable. This tool has 3 features: Cable cut (To centre conductor), Jacket stripper and centre conductor deburring tool. There is also an adjustment setting on the stripping tool to allow to cut for Times Microwave LMR Crimp connectors or Clamp connectors. This avoids having to take the time to read instructions and measure. Simply set it to the correct connector type and start stripping!
    CT-500 Crimp Tool 
    The CT-500 Crimp Tool, included in the TK-500EZ Tool Kit is the final tool used to crimp the connector on to the LMR-500 coaxial cable. The Crimp Tool has been specifically designed with ultra strong dies that never wear over time. The dies are made to a very fine tolerance, specifically designed for LMR-500 X Series connectors. The result from using the CT-500 crimp tool is the perfect crimp every time, with no tool degradation.
